Ning Xi is a wealthy heiress, but in practice she is treated little better than a servant in her own home. To escape the arranged marriage her father and stepmother have set up for her, she runs away and goes to graduate school.
Bai Yu is a poor girl from the countryside. She is aloof and insecure, a top student who hopes to change her family's fortunes through education.
On her first day at school, Ning Xi falls in love with Bai Yu at first sight. Ning Xi takes the initiative to get close to her, and Bai Yu's icy heart gradually warms. Before long, she falls in love with Ning Xi, too.

Zeng Zeyu schemes to send Bai Yu to prison, then uses threats and inducements to force Ning Xi to act as his defense lawyer. At the crucial moment, Ning Xi stages a painful act, successfully tricks Zeng Zeyu into revealing what he said, and sends him to prison. In the end, Ning Xi and Bai Yu reconcile.
