I am the horsetail whisk in Patriarch Bodhi’s hand,
and I witnessed how carefully he cherished Monkey.
The first time they met, the patriarch gave Monkey a name, taught him his skills, and let him go out into the world freely, never once thinking of holding him back;
when Monkey caused a great calamity and was crushed beneath Five Finger Mountain, the patriarch changed his appearance every year and brought him delicious food and fine wine to keep him company.
To free Monkey, he went to Heaven and asked the Jade Emperor to let Monkey undertake the Journey to the West.
Monkey lived up to his hopes and carved out a place for himself. Everyone in Heaven and on Earth knew the Great Sage Equal to Heaven.
Through all the Eighty-One Tribulations, the patriarch was there for every one.
Even if Monkey was a troublesome monkey in Tang Sanzang’s eyes, in the patriarch’s,
he would always be a clever, well-behaved disciple.
The Great Sage would always be the Great Sage, unmatched by anyone.
