Lin Shanshan is a sophomore in the Chinese department at Fengshang College, where she meets Wang Shijie, a junior in the finance department. They share the same interests and soon become a couple.
Before that, Wang Shijie had met Bai Ling'er, a rich heiress, online. The two called each other brother and sister, and during school breaks, he would even fly to her city to meet up, chat, and drink milk tea.
Wang Shijie told Lin Shanshan about this, and Shanshan graciously said she understood and didn't mind their relationship.
They thought things would stay that way until they graduated, but Wang Shijie's suspicious nature meant he was always doubting Lin Shanshan, and they soon broke up. Afterward, Wang Shijie began to go downhill, often eating, drinking, and partying with a group of troubled students. He also got to know Li Kai, a son of one of the companies that partnered with his father's business, whom he had never met in person. Li Kai liked Wang Shijie's younger sister, Wang Shiyan.
Later, the Wang family went bankrupt. Wang Shijie cruelly insisted that his sister drop out of school and marry a rich playboy she didn't even like. By then, Wang Shiyan and Lin Shanshan had become close friends. Unwilling to marry Li Kai and be used as a pawn in a political marriage, Wang Shiyan chose to jump to her death. Wang Shijie blamed Lin Shanshan for everything, believing she had caused his family to fall apart, and began taking a vicious revenge on her. He did everything from confining and threatening her to forcing her into marriage. In the end, can Lin Shanshan save herself and find happiness with her beloved junior, Zhang Zhe?
