A Sudden Fortune: The Rice Jar in My Home Connects to the Past and Present

[Travel between past and present + farming + stockpiling + medicine + years of famine + an orphan girl’s comeback and face-slapping + a rugged man’s rise to become a powerful prince]

Yun Qinghe, a fourth-year medical student, is kicked out of her father’s home after he starts a new family. As she leaves, she takes the Yun family heirloom: a rice jar that is worthless to everyone else, but treasured by her grandmother. By chance, Yun Qinghe forms a bond with the jar, opening a passage between the past and present.

The Su family is fleeing south toward the border. They run into bandits, and everyone in the family is killed except Su Junmo, who has gone out to find water, and two children who hid in the rice jar when the attack began.

After hiding in the jar, the children are transported to Yun Qinghe’s rented apartment in the modern world. When she learns that they have no food or water, she gives them the rice and flour she just bought, along with several bottles of mineral water. They take the supplies back to the past.

The people of Sujia Village believe a deity has come to their aid.

The children tell them that the deity likes bronze ware. Though puzzled, everyone offers up the rusty bronze heirlooms no one in their family wants.

Yun Qinghe sells the items for a fortune and, from then on, reaches the pinnacle of success.

She uses the money to help Su Junmo as much as she can: when he needs water, she sends water; when he needs food, she provides food…

Su Junmo joins the army and becomes a close friend of the crown prince.

The army is short on water? Su Junmo can take a stroll and find you a lake.

The army is short on food? Su Junmo takes another stroll, and somehow finds a thousand sacks of provisions in an uninhabited mountain cave.

…

But then…

“Your Highness, General Su has carried off the bronze cauldron we use for cooking…”

“Your Highness, after drinking with you yesterday, General Su walked off with your favorite set of white jade cups…”

“Your Highness…”
