"Journey to the West" is a modern online version based on the original work "Journey to the West" written by Dong Shuo (1620-1686) in the late Ming Dynasty. It was created by the online writer Lan Caixi. The original work is a pioneer of stream-of-consciousness novels and an outstanding sequel to "Journey to the West". It has had a profound impact on later literature such as "A Dream of Red Mansions". However, "Journey to the West" is difficult for modern readers to understand due to the complexity of the language and plot. The new version of "Journey to the West" simplifies the language and fills in the blanks to make it easier to understand. At the same time, the original chapters have been adjusted according to modern online writing habits, from the original sixteen chapters to thirty-six chapters.
The story takes place after Tang Seng and his disciples passed through the Flame Mountain. Sun Wukong mistakenly enters the New Tang Dynasty and learns that Qin Shihuang possesses the Expelling Mountain Duo that can move mountains, and is involved in a conspiracy about making Tang Monk a general. In the world of Qingqing, Wukong experienced a series of fantastic events: he entered the Ten Thousand Mirrors Terrace to see all living beings, transformed into a poppy in the ancient world to interact with Xiang Yu, and even temporarily replaced the King of Hell in the future to judge the souls of the dead. At the same time, Tang Seng encountered the love pursuit of Xiao Yue Wang and married the beautiful woman Cuisheng Niang, which caused tension in the relationship with Bajie and Sha Seng.
With the arrival of the envoys from the New Tang Dynasty, Tang Seng was named the General of the Qing Dynasty and led his army to the west. On the battlefield, they met King Paramita, who claimed to be Wukong's son. The latter killed King Xiaoyue and Tang Seng, causing the army to fall into chaos. Eventually, it's all revealed to be a dream created by the Mackerel Spirit. After Wukong woke up, he got rid of the mackerel spirit, and the four masters and disciples continued on their journey westward.
