The novel is based on the revolutionary struggle in Yunnan after the "Li Wen Incident". It tells the story of patriotic young students such as Yu Haoen and Li Yaxuan who participated in the "December 1st Movement" and how they followed Xu Keming, an underground member of the Communist Party of China, to inspect the "Red River-Ailao" area.
