My Fair Princess: Reunion in the Forbidden City tells the story of Xiao Yanzi, Yongqi, Qing'er, Xiao Jian, and the others after they have spent some time living in Dali. When they are invited back to the Forbidden City for Emperor Qianlong's birthday, they set out on the journey with mixed feelings. Qianlong misses them and sends a trusted eunuch with the invitation.
Back at the palace, they reunite with old friends, including Qianlong, the Empress Dowager, and Consort Ling, and the palace once again fills with laughter. They prepare gifts and performances for Qianlong's birthday banquet. However, some people in the palace envy them and secretly conspire to frame them. The protagonists stand together: Xiao Yanzi uses her intelligence to expose the plot, Yongqi protects everyone with his status, and Qing'er and Xiao Jian gather evidence. In the end, they overcome the crisis and ensure that the schemers are punished. The story celebrates the power of family, friendship, and love, as well as the protagonists' growth and sense of responsibility.
