Dawn and Shadow

As the moment of parting arrived, Anna gently bit her lower lip, tears glistening in her eyes. She wanted to say something, but couldn’t bring herself to speak. After a moment, she finally summoned the courage to step forward, cup Noah’s face in her hands, and press a gentle kiss to his forehead.

“Noah,” Anna whispered, her voice trembling slightly, but filled with an even deeper sadness. “Promise me that no matter what happens, you’ll find us after the war. I’ll wait for you. We’ll all wait for you.”

The convoy’s horns sounded. Anna and Ada had to climb aboard, while Noah watched them leave. Only after the convoy disappeared over the horizon did Noah turn away and let out a long breath.

But neither of them knew how long this parting would last.
