The world of Lin Jin, an ordinary college student, fell apart one late night. After escaping a library filled with inexplicable horrors, she encountered a killer in a dark alley beyond anything she could comprehend: a quantum-state monster called a Shadow Eater, imperceptible to ordinary people and immune to physical attacks. As she teetered on the brink of death, a cold mechanical voice rang out in her mind: “Codename: Zero-One. Binding successful.”
The forcibly implanted Zero-One System became her only way out of despair. It let her “see” the monsters and provided precise yet merciless survival instructions. An utterly inexplicable leap let her escape death by a hair, but also sent her plunging into a dark abyss surrounded by invisible hunters.
Survival became a cruel law. The price was becoming a puppet on the System’s strings. To maintain Zero-One’s pitiful “minimum survival probability,” Lin Jin was forced to carry out her first mandatory mission: hunt a weaker Shadow Eater and absorb its “source energy.” With a rusted iron pipe and terror that cut to the bone, she completed her first bloody, desperate “hunt” in a filthy corner. A slight boost to her physical abilities was her reward; the System’s cold energy bar was a countdown.
There was no way back. She could never return to an ordinary life, and she couldn’t shake the cold mechanical voice in her head. She had to hunt ghosts to survive, and to survive, she had to keep hunting. Named Yu Jin, she had to kindle her own flame in a hunting ground stalked by quantum ghosts. She had to fight not only the ever-present Shadow Eaters, but also the Zero-One System, with its unknown aims and tightly restricted permissions. Between cold commands and the remnants of her humanity, she searched for a glimmer of light in the depths of despair.
