The Phoenix Takes Flight

[A young marquis who disguises herself as a man and has MAX combat skills vs. a young prince who pretends to be weak but really can’t beat the heroine]

To uphold the prestige of the Zhenxi Marquis’s household, Lin Jue disguises herself as a man and enrolls at the Imperial College.

It’s hard work, but luckily she keeps up a cold, aloof act. Her classmates steer clear of her, which suits her just fine.

That is, until she meets her destined nemesis: Pei Xuan, the Prince of Yongan and son of the Grand Princess.

Everyone in the Jin Dynasty knows that Pei Xuan, Prince of Yongan, is the most incorrigible wastrel under heaven. He punches military officers, kicks civil officials, and even the princes give him a wide berth. When he’s in a bad mood, he’ll kick any cat or dog he sees on the roadside.

Later, Lin Jue discovers that Pei Xuan is a wastrel, but he’s also a crybaby.

Later still, Lin Jue realizes that Pei Xuan isn’t a wastrel. He’s just a bastard.

And finally, rumors spread through the capital that Prince Pei Xuan of Yongan and Lin Jue, the Zhenxi Marquis, are lovers, and that young Marquis Lin Jue has gotten the prince pregnant.

And finally, Pei Xuan holds his beloved daughter’s hand, crying so hard that his nose is running.

“Daughter, that’s her. She seduced me and then abandoned me.”

Lin Jue: …

She puts down her spear, picks up the phoenix seal, and hurls it at him.

“If you’re not going to work, get out of my sight!”
