The two unfortunate spouses, both unable to have children, hit it off at once. Their infertility won't stop them from becoming parents, so they plan to adopt a little girl they feel destined to meet, then find a husband for their daughter who will marry into the family...

In this strange new world, little fool Xu Yixin does everything she can to support her paralyzed husband. She has made soap, caught locusts, wrapped buns, made soy milk, and opened a supermarket. She's tightfisted, and can't bear to let even a single copper coin slip past her eyes...

Seeing his wife work so hard to support the family, her scholar husband, a cripple, feels too ashamed to keep being a fish flopping helplessly on dry land. He summons his courage and returns to the academy, where he crushes all opposition. Before long, he becomes a powerful minister second only to the emperor, and also a court favorite second only to the emperor, as described in The Outcast.
