"The Old Man and the Sea" is a novella written by Hemingway in the Bahamas in 1951 and published in 1952. It was the last major work of fiction published by Hemingway during his lifetime.
One of his most famous works, it revolves around an old Cuban fisherman battling a giant marlin in the Gulf Stream far offshore.
Although it has different literary evaluations, it is noteworthy among 20th century novels and Hemingway's works, establishing his prominent position in world literature. This novel won the 1953 American Pulitzer Prize and the 1954 Nobel Prize for Literature.
