Xie Yiran was an orphan. At fifteen, she was diagnosed with leukemia and chose conservative treatment. In truth, she ran away from the hospital. She traveled on a shoestring, and by the time she was seventeen, she had finally saved enough money by scavenging to buy a train ticket to the poets’ dreamland: the Sahara Desert. She secretly died there.
What awaited her was neither reincarnation nor the underworld.
In the desert, she found a blank employee ID card stained with foul-smelling blood.
[Ding-dong! Employee 001 has returned to work. Would you like to return? Sorry, you don’t have a choice. You’ve been on strike for ages, and your leave slip expired long ago.]
And just like that, Xie Yiran became a ghostly sanitation worker.
The unknown ghosts and underworld NPCs had yet to receive their wages when they got a notice that their instance had crashed: “No, where did you get that bridal outfit? And where’s our young master?”
[The xx Underworld instance will be temporarily closed for repairs.]
Xie Yiran had no idea what was going on. The System had just dumped her here. She saw a gorgeous phoenix coronet and bridal robe lying on the ground and thought it would be a shame to waste them. Besides, she was cold, so she put them on.
While she was at it, she beat up some vile ghostly thing that looked like a gentleman but had tried to molest her.
Xie Yiran, entirely unapologetic: “Wasn’t he asking for it?!”
Meanwhile, the NPCs watching the show from all over: “This has nothing to do with us…”
A certain System, which had only just found its glasses after being nearsighted: “Oh no, I picked up the wrong person!”
No, it didn’t know anything. It was just a weak, pitiful, helpless little System.
Even so, Xie Yiran soon made a name for herself as a scavenger, and unemployment among the NPCs hit a new high.
The NPCs these days: “No, sis, you can’t just pick up everything…”
The human players: “Why don’t you do something about her? She’s so annoying.”
The NPCs: “…”
