My mom is addicted to penny-pinching and can't bear to spend money on anything.
My coworkers were coming over to my place for dinner.
I reminded her over and over to prepare a table full of good food.
But to save money, she went to the market and picked up some rotten vegetable leaves no one wanted.
She said, "They're perfectly good vegetables. Why can't we eat them? Haven't we grown up eating stuff like this for years?!"
The rotten leaves turned out to be poisonous. Not only did all the coworkers who came to dinner block me, but my company was also afraid of the bad publicity and fired me.
When I got home, I had a huge fight with my mom, but my dad and younger brother blamed me for being oversensitive and ungrateful.
Later, I had a mental breakdown and developed depression.
My mom insisted I was just psychologically fragile. She not only stopped me from getting treatment, but went around telling the neighbors I was putting on an act to win people's sympathy.
In the end, my condition worsened, and I chose to slit my wrists.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the day my coworkers were coming over for dinner.
