Detective Conan: Officer Xigong on the Case

Starting a new story, pairing: Jingguang

When I was little, I often heard Mom say with relief:

“Thank goodness Sachiko looks like me.”

…

I’m Nishinomiya Sachiko, an ordinary girl with an ordinary surname and first name. The only unusual thing about me, I suppose, is that I have a father I can’t call “Dad.”

When I was eight, my mother, a designer, took me with her on a business trip to the United States. She was discussing details with a client, and with nothing to do, I explored the hotel. In the end, I found a hidden nook that only a child could squeeze into. There, I overheard a conversation I still remember vividly, even seventeen years later.

“Mr. Rum, what happened?”

“Jager! Stop asking questions and retreat!”

What was Rum? And what was Jager? They sounded like titles, like the codenames my friends and I made up when we played pretend.

Something told me not to make a sound. After the footsteps faded, I caught a glimpse of their backs. One was my father, whose face I could barely remember. The other was a short, bald, middle-aged man. I burned the sight of his back into my memory.
