Jiang Yichen is a marketing manager at a pharmaceutical company. His wife, Ye Wanru, heads the Drug and Medical Device Manufacturing Supervision Section at the drug administration. Jiang Yichen falls short of his wife in status, income, and connections. Though he takes care of all the housework, she looks down on him. He loves cooking, and after an argument, he goes to help out at a night-market food stall. His dishes are so delicious and aromatic that they quickly become popular. After overhearing a couple talking at the stall, Jiang Yichen suspects his wife is having an affair and begins investigating her, determined to catch her in the act. The ordeal leaves them both physically and emotionally exhausted. Jiang Yichen asks for a divorce, but Ye Wanru refuses because she still has feelings for him and fears it could hurt her career.
While tracking his wife during a business trip, Jiang Yichen helps a homeless man, giving him food and drink, a haircut and a bath, and some new clothes. In return, the man gives him a thread-bound cookbook. Jiang Yichen takes the old man home and learns to cook from him, eventually winning the title of Culinary God at a cooking competition. Yet in his acceptance speech, Jiang Yichen says he does not care about the title.
After everything they have been through, Jiang Yichen and Ye Wanru begin to reflect on their marriage. Jiang Yichen realizes how insecure and oversensitive he has been, while Ye Wanru understands that she has neglected her husband. They decide to sit down and communicate honestly, working together to repair their marriage. Jiang Yichen continues pursuing his culinary dreams, while Ye Wanru gives him more support and understanding alongside her work. Their lives gradually return to normal, and after weathering their difficulties, their love grows deeper and stronger.
