The Family of Xishui Village

The Xi family of Xishui Village has put down roots and grown on this land for four generations, from the grandparents to the great-grandchildren. They quarrel, yet depend on one another.

There are years of famine endured through gritted teeth, family divisions that tear relationships apart, the regret of leaving home for faraway places, and tearful reunions after long separations. Some are trapped by love, clinging to one obsession for a lifetime. Some toil for their families until their black hair turns white. Some leave the mountain village, yet can never forget their roots.

Across four generations of one family, some know bitterness, some sweetness, some resentment, and some longing.

Quarreling and bickering are part of everyday life; the joys and sorrows of parting and reunion are part of being human.

Years pass and the stream keeps flowing. What never changes is the word “home,” etched into their very bones.

Witness the everyday lives of four generations of the Xi family in Xishui Village, a story that captures all the joys and sorrows of an ordinary family’s life.
