This is the story of a sensitive, insecure, conflicted yet gentle and independent university psychology teacher, and a steady, articulate publishing-house editor who gets jealous easily but pretends to be unfazed.
Someone asked, “What do lychees have to do with whales?”
As a child from a single-parent family and the eldest of three, she always knew she was expected to be sensible. She also knew she wasn’t especially favored by fate, and that whatever she wanted, she had to fight for with everything she had, because there was no one to catch her if she fell. Yet even though she tried so hard, she still wasn’t given any leeway...
She says, “I really do have a knack for making people who liked me at first end up fed up with me.”
“I tested you a thousand times before I dared believe your feelings were real.” Until she met Chen Zijin.
Chen Zijin grew up in a warm, loving family. His parents were university professors, and he was handsome, the kind of “other people’s kid” everyone admired.
When Chen Zijin first heard about her from his mother, he simply thought she was a girl who inspired sympathy. Then he recognized her again after an incident in which she hitched a ride.
Thinking that their indirect connection through their academic circle meant he should help if he could, he never expected her to mistake him for a jerk, which left him feeling a little resentful toward her.
He became the first man to propose with lychees instead of roses.
He said, “Yi Zhi, summer isn’t summer without lychees. I hope I can have the chance to stay by your side always. That’s my promise.”
(All people, companies, and other names in this story are fictional and have no connection to real life. If you spot any inaccuracies in the professional details, just let them slide. The author isn’t an expert, and this is my first book!)
I wrote it too fast, and there are few emotional lines. In fact, I can organize my thoughts and write slowly.
