[Two male leads + palace intrigue and power struggles + equally matched leads + slow-burn romance + 1v1 happy ending]

Everyone knew that Zhao Jinshu, crown prince of the Eastern Xia Kingdom, was exceptionally talented, skilled at governing, and deeply loved by the emperor.

Unfortunately, an attack in his childhood had left him frail ever since. All factions at court eyed the ailing heir, waiting for a chance to strike.

Then, at some point, a tall, burly, rough-and-ready guard named Gu Lai suddenly appeared at Zhao Jinshu’s side as his personal attendant.

When Zhao Jinshu refused to take his medicine, even tossing aside an imperial edict from his own father, Gu Lai simply knocked him unconscious with one blow and poured the medicine down his throat.

When Zhao Jinshu missed his late mother, Gu Lai followed silently at his side. Yet when the prince got drunk, he carefully carried him through the deep snow all the way back to the Eastern Palace, treating him like a priceless treasure.

When Zhao Jinshu struggled against his younger brother, Gu Lai was willing to risk being torn apart and devoured by wild beasts, hiding his true abilities so Zhao Jinshu could claim first place in the hunt...

Later on.

Zhao Jinshu couldn’t help asking his personal medicine-serving guard: [Gu Lai, what exactly do you take me, Zhao Jinshu, for?]

Usually so straightforward and honest, the rugged man unexpectedly lifted the other’s face in his hands and kissed him with reverent devotion.

Afterward, the inarticulate man had only one thing to say: [I just want you to live a good, long life.]
