Sailing into the Deep

This book consists of a novella and a short story. The first story is about a girl named Liu who is pursued by a young man. Their story eventually ends in tragedy, as the girl is tormented by love and false accusations. The second story is about Tamako's family, who struggle to run a clothing shop in Yokohama as business steadily declines. While trying to save the shop, they experience a series of supernatural events. Tamako is a middle school student with an older sister named Ushio, who attends high school in Chiba and comes home once every two months. Her father died when she was young, leaving her depressed. By her second year of middle school, she has become withdrawn and seems willing to talk only to her sister and the mannequins in the clothing shop. When the mannequins are due to be replaced, Tamako takes the old ones to school. With them for company, she seems a little happier. But as her classmates begin turning into mannequins one by one and the strange dreams begin, Tamako is desperate to put an end to it all.
