This book is compiled based on the author's investigation records and various unearthed artifacts in the Tarim Basin from 1928 to 1929. The whole book is divided into two parts: the investigation process and the description of the relics. The investigation process describes a number of ancient towns, temples, ditches and garrison ruins found around the Tarim Basin, which provides good clues for studying the political and economic relations between the Han and Tang dynasties and the Western Regions. A number of road maps and working drawings are also attached for reference. The description of the relics is divided into paintings, clay sculptures, pottery models, wood carvings, fabrics, texts, coins, copper, stone, pottery, etc. It is described by category and explains its nature and use. It is also accompanied by 120 illustrations, which provides new information for studying the interaction between Chinese and Western cultures.

This book is so interesting! I especially like the ancient towns, temples and ditches in the book. I feel like I can see people living there in the past. Grandpa Huang Wenbi is so amazing. He went to the Tarim Basin so many times and found a lot of interesting things, which helped me learn a lot of new knowledge.
