Cemetery No. 4 is the largest cemetery in Dingchuan City. It has twenty-one grave keepers, numbered 01 to 21, with only number 04 missing, until Mao Shisan, a good-for-nothing from Maoshan, applies to become the fourth cemetery’s keeper. What Mao Shisan doesn’t expect is that a string of paranormal events will follow: blood raining at noon, a baby crying at night, a mysterious old woman, laughing will-o’-the-wisps, not to mention tomb robbers, beggars stealing divine offerings, and wild dogs and cats that have become spirits. Through one encounter with ghosts after another, Mao Shisan experiences the harshness of the world and the warmth and coldness of human relationships, and lives through love and hatred between the living and the dead. He also uncovers a conspiracy hidden in the cemetery. Faced with the Demon King, he can only fight to the death.
