The story takes place in an isolated town-Fenghua Town. The residents of the town are very superstitious and are especially afraid of nightfall because it is said that there is some unspeakable evil force lurking in the forest around the town. The protagonist of the story is a female reporter named Lin Xi. She came to Fenghua Town to investigate many bizarre disappearances. All the victims disappeared at night without any clues or witnesses.
As the investigation deepens, Lin Xi discovers that everyone in the town seems to be hiding some kind of secret, and the history of the town begins to look increasingly weird. She gradually uncovers a bloody sacrificial ritual related to the mayor's family decades ago, which was said to be to appease some ancient being in the forest.
But the real horror is that Lin Xi finds that she cannot leave this town. No matter how she tries, she will return to the center of the town, as if she is trapped here by some irresistible force. At the same time, clues and characters around Lin Xi began to "disappear", and she herself was gradually eroded by that evil force.
