The protagonist, Xiao Muyun, is a newly graduated PhD in agricultural science. Since he had already found a job before graduation, he said goodbye to his classmates and set off on a graduation trip. During his travels, he was unexpectedly chosen to be a participant in an alternate world experience.
The alternate world is essentially an endless expanse of land covered with mountains, rivers, forests, and sofas, where all kinds of beasts and monsters roam. It is divided into different regions, each filled with obstacles designed to help the protagonist develop his abilities.
To become the successor to the alternate world's ruler and return to reality as soon as possible, Xiao Muyun starts out as a poor farmer. He uses his knowledge to grow various crops and make all kinds of farming tools. To withstand natural disasters, he clears wasteland, digs fishponds, builds reservoirs, and puts up greenhouses. On his very first day in the alternate world, he kills two wild boars that suddenly charge in. Along the way, he rescues a saber-toothed tiger cub, nurses it back to health, and befriends its family. With the saber-toothed tigers' help, he defeats the monsters that come to steal his crops, and they save him from danger more than once. He also meets a queen bee who pollinates his crops, a beaver family that builds reservoirs, a golden snub-nosed monkey that stands guard, and wild oxen and boars that sneak off with his harvest.
As Xiao Muyun's rank rises, the amount of land he owns grows ever larger, and his story continues…
