After obtaining the Buddhist scriptures, Sun Wukong refused to remain under Heaven’s Court’s control and oppression. He gathered seventy-two demon kings and forty-nine mighty generals to wage a fierce battle against the celestial soldiers and generals. Heaven’s Court ultimately won, but at a terrible cost. To guard against future threats, it established a powerful barrier formation that severed the connection between the celestial realm and the lower world. Immortals and Buddhas could no longer descend to the human world, leaving demons and monsters to run rampant and society in chaos.
Five hundred years later, Lu Zigui accidentally obtained Sun Wukong’s sacred body. Through a series of adventures and challenges, he gradually awakened all of Sun Wukong’s powers. Heaven’s Court was deeply wary of him, fearing his power could overthrow its rule, and decided to send celestial soldiers down to capture him.
