The Humble Emperor Begs for Love: Ningning, Won't You Be Sweet to Me?

[Sweet and angsty, with all the angst aimed at the male lead; death-filled Shura field; yandere, obsessive man; tyrant]

The man who killed her and her entire family in her dreams ascended the throne. She fled with her family, never expecting to be captured and brought back.

The man pinned her hard against the edge of the bed. Terror flickered in her eyes as a trembling, broken voice escaped her.

“Please, let me go...” the girl sobbed.

“Let you go? Why should I let you go, Ningning? Do you know how much I love you?” His hand rested on her cheek, but his eyes were filled with madness and obsession.

All she had done was praise a male musician’s playing at a palace banquet. He locked himself in a room for three days and nights, practicing that piece over and over until his fingers bled. At last, he managed to play it perfectly, and his blood soaked the instrument.

Yet the man played as if nothing were wrong, smiling happily as he told her, “Look, Ningning, if he can do it, so can I. If you like something, I can learn anything for you.”

Every time she tried to escape, he went mad all over again. He was sick with the need to possess her, yet couldn’t bear to hurt her. He raised his sword and stabbed himself in the chest without hesitation, trying to use pain to fight the mad desire in his mind to possess her.

“Ningning, I will never hurt you.”

“Ningning, why don’t you love me?”

“Forget him and be with me, all right? I’ll give you anything you want, even my life.”

She thought he had come to kill her, never realizing she would become his salvation.

He thought she was his salvation, never realizing he would become her nightmare.
