Just after Gu Ran got out of prison, she ran into an old woman. The woman clung to her shamelessly, holding up a photo and smiling as she said,
“Miss, take a look at my grandson. Isn't he handsome?”
Gu Ran heard the woman's proud tone and glanced at the photo without much interest.
Seeing she wasn't impressed, the old woman changed tactics.
“Miss, let me tell you, my grandson isn't just handsome. He's rich, too. He practically owns all of the capital!”
Gu Ran still looked completely unmoved.
But the old woman's next words finally caught her attention.
“Miss, my grandson is handsome and rich, and he's also in a vegetative state. I promise that if you marry into our family, you won't have to lift a finger or have any children. You'll inherit our entire fortune!”
A flicker of interest passed through Gu Ran's eyes, but she quickly composed herself and said with an indifferent expression,
“Ma'am, do you mean it?”
Gu Ran had just gotten out of prison, and she could use a few things. Free money most of all. This was perfect: it had come right to her doorstep. Why turn it down?
With that, Gu Ran pulled the old woman into the car behind her.
After getting their marriage certificates, Gu Ran really did enjoy life at the Lu house like a complete layabout.
But the good times didn't last. One night, her husband, the supposedly long-sleeping vegetative patient, suddenly woke up, and Gu Ran's life changed.
