In the fictional Qing Dynasty city of Rift City, deep corruption and conspiracy lurk beneath a prosperous facade. The young censor Deng Wei and his partner Chen Hao are assigned to investigate a corruption scandal that has rocked the region, uncovering a tangled web of graft. They discover that a mysterious organization called the Shadow Assembly is trying to overthrow the city’s entire government through high-tech surveillance, bribery of officials, and other means. As the two investigate further and expose the truth, they face a host of obstacles, including corruption within their own ranks and power struggles. In the end, they succeed in foiling the Shadow Assembly’s plot. Though the city’s corruption is not completely eradicated, their efforts help Rift City gradually return to order. The road to justice remains long, and Deng Wei and Chen Hao will continue fighting to protect this city shrouded in mist.
