The Aubrey-Maturin series consists of twenty books and is hailed as the greatest historical novel series of the twentieth century. "Post Captain" is the second book in the series. The original author, Patrick O'Brian (1914-2000), draws on his astonishing breadth of knowledge to bring to life the historical setting, society, and naval life of the British Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars. His precise descriptions of ship handling, naval terminology, tactics, and strategy make readers feel as if they are there.
At present, the only Chinese translations available on the market are the first book, "Master and Commander," and the tenth, "The Far Side of the World," published by Yilin Press in 2007 and 2008, respectively. Fans in China who love naval battles in the Age of Sail have yet to see the other eighteen books. I am no great writer, but I would like to contribute what little I can.
