After Getting into Tsinghua, My Family’s World Came Crashing Down

My parents promised to take me on a trip if I came first in my exams. I stayed up late and spent all my savings on the last few plane tickets. Clutching my report card, I waited happily for my parents to come home. When I opened my eyes, I found the tickets in the shredder. It turned out my younger sister had done badly on her exams, so she shredded her test papers along with my tickets. I broke down sobbing. “Why did you throw away my tickets just because you did badly on your exams?” But my parents looked at me with disgust. “Your sister did badly, and all you can think about is going on a trip? Can’t you act like an older sister for once?” “Xiaoxiao didn’t cry even though she did badly. You’re only missing out on a trip, so what are you crying for?” My older brother looked down on me, too. “You never come first, but the moment Xiaoxiao does badly, you have to make a scene.” Later, I got zeros across the board while my sister placed near the top. They still forced me to smile. “Your sister did so well, so why are you sulking? Does the whole family have to walk on eggshells around you?” No, of course not. It’s just that I’d already been admitted to Tsinghua through a special recommendation. I’m done with this family.
