The book is divided into two series, the upper series is prose, and the lower series is poetry. Except for the first prose in the book, "A Lonely Dream in the Cold Window," all the other prose in the upper series and all the poems in the second series are arranged according to the time of creation. Most of what is written in the essay "Lonely Dream in the Cold Window" is Gao Chun's memories of his life before he was twenty years old. Before the age of twenty, Gao Chun had a relatively rich life experience, with ups and downs of joy and sorrow. Many of his feelings are still vivid in his memory. Other essays included in this book also reflect Gao Chun's life experience and emotional thoughts to a certain extent. The poems in the book express more of Gao Chun's thoughts after he was twenty-five years old. Those scattered poems are mostly obscure records of Gao Chun's life mood and tortuous expressions of life contradictions. They also include Gao Chun's questioning of his own destiny and exploration of the truth of the world.
