Before and After I Was Reborn, Why Is Everyone Trying to Steal My Master?

"You protect all living beings. I'll protect you!"

[Proud, white-haired master Mu Wanzhou x devoted disciple Xiao Yu]

A brick from a city wall absorbed spiritual energy and took human form, becoming Mu Wanzhou, the master of Qingyun Pavilion. Born with hair as white as frost, he appears aloof and is sharp-tongued but kind-hearted. He takes in Xiao Yu, a young demon who has been stranded in the mortal realm.

Xiao Yu is always frustrated by how compassionate his master is, putting all living beings first and repeatedly sacrificing himself without a second thought. He wishes his master could be a little more selfish. But knowing that all living beings are his master's most cherished obsession, Xiao Yu is willing to sacrifice himself to protect that ideal for him.

In their previous lives, Xiao Yu's birth father persecuted them from behind the scenes, and they both died.

When they are both reborn, neither knows that the other has returned from the underworld too. As their master-disciple bond resumes, the feelings they had long suppressed slowly deepen and grow warmer as they spend every day together. They fight enemies side by side and confide in one another, gradually melting the master's hard, cold exterior. Together, they overcome prejudice and countless hardships, finally becoming cultivation partners as they had hoped. They believe they will spend every day together from then on, never to part again.

But one after another, people driven by selfish desires appear. Some find Mu Wanzhou standing in the way of their plans; others see him as a bargaining chip that could fulfill their ambitions. One plot after another is set in motion. Xiao Yu's birth father was only the first pawn to fall.

When disaster strikes, just as the sandalwood blossoms burst into bloom, Xiao Yu vanishes in Mu Wanzhou's arms. Mu Wanzhou, who has always refused to reveal his feelings, can no longer hide the love surging within him. His proud facade shatters completely.

Alone, his frost-white hair silhouetted before the grave, he weeps softly: "Why am I the only one left again? You promised you would love me forever..."
