Bai Zhi is a snow leopard Alpha. Three years ago, his daughter came down with a strange illness. After trying every possible remedy, Bai Zhi took revenge on Xiao Yuannian's parents for failing to cure her, and they died with hatred in their hearts. At a meeting, his older sister Bai Yu told him that only mermaid blood could cure the illness. So he established the H735 Experimental Unit.

Xiao Yuannian is a Finnish white wolf Alpha. To take revenge, he joined Unit 735. His job was to go to the Avisga Sea, slaughter mermaids, and take them to the lab to be drained of their blood. But each time, he secretly released some of the mermaids that were still alive back into the sea. He gave the mermaid blood to his daughter to drink, and her condition really did improve. But when he realized he could make a fortune from mermaids, he began hunting them down relentlessly. He turned captured mermaid Alphas into weapons and sold them at a high price, while mermaid Omegas became breeding tools.

During one hunt, they captured Avisga while he was in a weakened state. Unexpectedly, Xiao Yuannian didn't hand Avisga over to Bai Zhi. Instead, he kept him in the basement. At first, Avisga was hostile toward Xiao Yuannian. He thought Xiao Yuannian was just like Bai Zhi, a bloodthirsty killer. But gradually, he realized that Xiao Yuannian wasn't as bad as he'd imagined.
