Set in a fictional era, this is a classical Chinese-inspired war epic. Its stage is the Chijin Dynasty, which dominates the east of the ancient Guanghua Continent. The central mystery follows Fu Rui, a military genius searching for the Nine Cauldrons, said in prophecy to bring forth nine "miracles" and guide the revival of Chijin civilization. Woven through this quest are Fu Rui's personal growth, the political maneuvering and military campaigns of the Chijin Dynasty and its rival civilization, the Asura, their grand wars and changing fortunes, and the diverse peoples and civilizations of the Guanghua Continent. Fu Rui's struggles and perseverance link together a sweeping contest between civilizations across the vast expanse of history and time.
The story unfolds gradually, delving deeper at every turn. Its highlights include mysteries revealed through layers of suspicion, believable reforms and political change, sweeping war epics, and deeply moving contests of human nature. It brings together a cast of heroes who reveal both the light and darkness within humanity, paints a stirring and tumultuous panorama of war, and retraces the journey of an ancient civilization from decline to renewed strength and, at last, revival. In the end, it elevates the theme that "faith itself is a miracle." The writing is grand in style without losing its humor. The fierce battles, captivating mysteries, clashes between civilizations from another world, the struggles and perseverance of numerous characters, and protagonist Fu Rui's growth are all highlights of the story.
The plot of this book is fascinating and full of suspense and surprises. I particularly like the protagonist Fu Rui. He continues to grow in the process of searching for Jiuding and does not give up in the face of difficulties. I admire this kind of persistence. Moreover, the description of war scenes in the book is very shocking, making me feel as if I was actually there. I think this is a book worth reading and I highly recommend it!
