I Won the Lottery, Quit My Job, and Went Home to Retire

Song Xiaomi, an ordinary office worker with a regular university degree, can only hold a mundane job at a small company. There’s little chance of promotion, the pay is meager, and she has to work overtime until late every day. She can’t understand how such a tiny company can have so much work that the overtime never ends.

Then, one day, her luck is worse than ever. She leaves work on time but misses the bus and arrives late, losing her perfect-attendance bonus. At lunch, she doesn’t even order fish, yet a fish bone gets stuck in her throat. A trip to the hospital costs her several hundred yuan, and on her way out she accidentally steps in dog poop.

Furious, she passes a lottery shop and spends fifty yuan on tickets. To her surprise, she wins.

She quits her job at once and heads home to enjoy a leisurely retirement: sleeping until she wakes naturally in the morning and wandering around the village in the afternoon.

But wait, isn’t that guy her old primary-school classmate? Wasn’t he short and dark back then? How did he get so tall and sturdy, and lose his tan? He’s actually pretty handsome now. Why does he keep hanging around her every day? She hears he’s leased the village’s hillsides to plant fruit trees and opened a farmstay. He’s become a respectable businessman, too.
