A plague-like transformation swept across the Arad Continent, turning its plants and animals into evil monsters overnight. They were vicious and bloodthirsty, devouring everything in their path.
Then a great fire fell upon Gran Forest like a meteor. Its blazing flames burned away most of the forest's vegetation, but could not destroy the transformed plants and animals. Gran Forest became an eerie sea of fire, a forest of death. The elves vanished from the forest completely.
Strange transformations began appearing all across the Arad Continent, and the mutated plants and animals grew ever more frenzied. Even the adventurers who braved hardship to travel across Arad and exterminate the monsters could do nothing to ease the crisis. The continent sank into endless darkness.
More worrying still, the Sky City, which had disappeared, reappeared above the Arad Continent. Its return stirred various evil forces into action. The Black Plague engulfed human villages, killing every last person inside. The dark elves took advantage of the chaos to wage war on humanity.
