Life’s Partings and Meetings Are Always Thus

That day, Wen Yuzhou had no idea why there was a pool of blood on his hands. He froze for a moment, then gave a pale smile. Oh, right! He'd just killed someone... But who had he killed? Why had he killed him...

Much later, he killed with his own hands the boy he'd once glimpsed in passing in the desert many years ago, a sight so striking it had stayed with him. Life was far too long. He could no longer remember everyone he'd killed, but he remained haunted by the last person he had killed.

He couldn't make out that person's face, but he remembered what he said with a smile just before he died: “Yuzhou, once the move is made, there's no taking it back.”
