(A Record of the Journey to the West) The book's four main characters, Sun Wukong, Tang Sanzang, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing, each have a distinct personality and unique qualities. Sun Wukong is immensely powerful and possesses extraordinary abilities. His courage, quick wit, and rebellious spirit are admirable. He dares to challenge authority and wreak havoc in Heaven, displaying fearless bravery. Yet as he protects Tang Sanzang on the journey west to seek the scriptures, he gradually learns restraint and patience, changing from a rebel into a loyal guardian.
Tang Sanzang represents compassion and unwavering faith. Though he can sometimes seem old-fashioned and weak, his devotion to the quest for the scriptures and his care for all living beings are admirable. Zhu Bajie's gluttony, laziness, and lust often make people laugh, but he also has a kind and lovable side. Sha Wujing's honesty and steadfast diligence make him an indispensable member of the group, quietly giving everything he has to the journey.
During their journey to seek the scriptures, the master and his three disciples face eighty-one trials, each one a test of their resolve and faith. They are attacked by demons and monsters and forced to make life-or-death choices, but they never give up. Their perseverance and determination to press forward deeply move me. Their success is no coincidence: it is achieved through teamwork and unyielding determination.
The book's depiction of human nature, good and evil, and cause and effect also prompts deeper reflection on life. The monsters' many misdeeds are ultimately punished as they deserve, while kindness and justice are always upheld. This convinces me that in life, we should remain kind and do good deeds, creating a better world for ourselves and others.
