Tales of the Southern Kingdom

The Yun and Mu families of the capital had been family friends for generations. Grand Tutor Yun and General Mu were classmates and close friends, serving at court and supporting one another. In time, both married and had children: one had a son, the other a daughter. So they arranged a betrothal for their children while they were still young.

But life is full of the unexpected. When the border was in danger, General Mu gave his life for his country, and his wife soon followed him in death. Yet at that very moment, the Yun family broke off the engagement and sought imperial favor, sending their eldest daughter, Yun Qing, to become a consort in the Eastern Palace.

The two families fell out completely, civil officials and military generals taking opposing sides. His Majesty knew the Mu family had been wronged, so, hoping to mend relations, he issued an edict arranging a marriage: the Yun family's younger daughter, Yun Shu, would take her elder sister's place and marry into the general's household.

Never in her dreams had Yun Shu imagined that her husband would be him, the man who had almost become her brother-in-law!

As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that the rift between the Yun and Mu families was part of a great conspiracy. No matter how hard Yun Shu tries to make amends and set things right, the situation remains a dead end…
