Dugu Bai is one of the living dead.
He was brought out of the cryogenic pod that modern people call a “living dead coffin” and entered an era that seemed not to belong to him.
An engineer who lived in the space between the old Biohuman era and the Cyberhuman era once had an interesting idea inspired by his personal interests while designing cyberware and writing its software architecture:
A martial arts enthusiast, he imagined all kinds of ways to use cyber technology to modify the human body and create “cyber martial arts.”
A furnace for the dantian and qi sea; an artificial meridian system; external-style cyberware; chips that map the paths of protective qi; iterative combat training...
These ideas, along with many others he never got to bring to life, were all stored in a quantum memory unit. The file was signed “Dugu Qiubai.” But when he was brought out of the coffin, he was told that everything he had left behind had forged a cyber jianghu of iron and blood.
A group of people called themselves his disciples and grand-disciples, and generation after generation had waited faithfully for his return.
Countless legendary weapons and peerless martial arts lay within arm’s reach, ready to be picked at will.
He had awakened.
Master Qiao wielding an illusionary bamboo staff?
Dongfang Bubai twirling a monomolecular wire?
Neither could last a single move against him.
And so the ghost from an old era cast its shadow over a land of towering eaves and neon lights.
That ghost was named Dugu Qiubai.
