The story takes place in the late Ming Dynasty, an era full of martial arts style and court struggles. The Flying Squirrel Gate and the Jinyiwei are two important forces in the story. The former seems to be related to the rebellion against the imperial court, while the latter is the secret police of the imperial court, responsible for combating forces that oppose the imperial court.
