The Station’s Stormy Days

Around 2010, the railway sector was marked by a lack of separation between government and business. Shi Xinjun, the railway system's top leader, wielded unchecked power, and the industry's political climate was deeply unhealthy. Cao Qinglian, stationmaster of Shenzhou Railway Station, was about to be promoted to deputy general manager of the group company thanks to his outstanding ability and record of achievement. But Wu Liang, head of the Xuyang Railway Operations Section, used “pulling strings for a post” to ingratiate himself with Shi Xinjun, push Cao Qinglian aside, and beat him to the promotion. Wu Liang became deputy general manager. After taking office, Wu Liang made trouble for Cao Qinglian at every turn and meddled in the railway station's business projects to line his own pockets. Unwilling to be at others' mercy, Cao Qinglian devoted himself to his work. He earned a solid footing through diligence and integrity, worked wholeheartedly for the station's benefit, and secured the full support of his superior, the chairman. In the end, he fulfilled his life's ambitions. When Shi Xinjun fell from power due to corruption, Wu Liang also got what he deserved.
