Notes on a Beloved Eunuch

A high-ranking princess who loves pretty faces vs. a wickedly charming, devoted palace eunuch

[Rebirth + court intrigue and palace power struggles + secret crush + flirtation and tension + mutual salvation + fake eunuch + princess + both pure + forced love]

After more than a decade of being cherished, Shang An had never imagined that one day every bit of her glory would turn into a blade pointed at her. Her mother consort died miserably in bed, ignored by everyone. The winter plum blossoms in the garden bloomed blood-red as they wept through the night. The jade palace roof caved in overnight, and a bottomless abyss opened at her feet. Only then did she understand: the beautiful jewels and glittering gold and silver that filled the palace gates had left her eyes too dazzled to see clearly. The eagle from the frontier had broken its own wings, and no matter how she blew her whistle, it would never fly back. When she lowered her head, she saw the clever young man she had wished for on her tenth birthday walking, step by step, toward the execution platform he had set up with his own hands. The only words that reached her ears above the howling wind were: [This servant has been filthy and vile all his life. This end is heaven’s punishment, and has nothing to do with Your Highness.] But where no one could see, his unspoken words drifted on the breeze: [For all eternity, I wish only for my princess to remain untouched by dust, safe and at peace.]
