Sold into the palace as a child, Xiao Ruofu had seen countless women struggling to survive at the sides of imperial princes. Some sought favor, all tender and affectionate, their eyes brimming with love. Others sought power, praying to Buddha for sons and making offerings to bargain for their lives. They did it all just to survive, to climb a little higher on the white jade steps of the ninefold palace. Favor, power, glory, children, even longevity: everything had to be begged from the man they had attached themselves to.
She was no different. She, too, had attached herself to the man who had changed the course of her life again when she was thirteen, even though he could hardly be called a man when he casually uttered those words.
But as the years passed, he finally became one.
No matter how old he was, his gaze always settled on her. It seemed different from the way other men looked at their favored concubines and beloved wives, and yet perhaps it wasn’t different at all.
All she could do was make sure that gaze did not disappear too soon.
Nothing more.
(A classic tale of an unloved, coldhearted prince and his unconventional white moonlight.)
The writing skills are good, and the description of the era and class is very accurate.
It's okay but very depressing. I don't like this kind of hard life.
Although I haven't read it all, the author's writing is worthy of five stars.
It's pretty good. What kind of psychological description is quite poignant.
