After modern-day girl Lin Shuang'er slipped into a ravine while climbing a mountain, her soul transmigrated to the war-torn Xia Dynasty and entered the body of a girl with the same name who had suffered a miserable life. Since night had fallen and the snowstorm was fierce, Lin Shuang'er suggested they go for him the next day. The mother and son were somewhat reassured, and invited Lin Shuang'er to stay the night.

Early the next morning, Zhang Ziming borrowed a donkey cart, while Zhao Cuihua worried Lin Shuang'er would get cold and gave her a special “cotton-padded coat.” On the way up the mountain, they encountered an even worse snowstorm, and the donkey cart got stuck. The three of them pushed it together. When they reached the hut, they found that the roof had collapsed and everyone inside was shivering. They carried Zhang San and the children onto the cart, while Lin Shuang'er dug out the remaining supplies.
