Farewell to Linghua

After my father placed first in the imperial exams, he fell in love at first sight with Princess Danyun.

He forgot the deep love he had shared with my mother for years, and coldly watched as the princess humiliated us mother and daughter in every way.

But on the day my mother perished in a sea of flames, my father suddenly charged toward the blazing fire like a madman.

He cried out in heart-wrenching anguish, “Niannian, I’m back. I’m back.”
