The Powerful Minister’s Beloved

Jin Can Can opened her eyes to find a slave trader dragging her off to be sold. Behind her, two little children clutched at her clothes, sobbing their hearts out and refusing to let go. The little girl was pale and gaunt, her face full of misery. [Grandma, sell me instead. I’m little and can’t work. If you keep Big Sister, she can help you.] The little boy was covered in snot and tears. [Grandma, sell me. I eat a lot and waste food.] Their heartless grandmother sneered. [Keep crying, and I’ll sell you all together.] Their kind-faced but cruel-hearted aunt was delighted. Once the second son’s children were sold, the house would belong to her and her son. As she fled from place to place with her younger siblings, she met him. His attendant: “Master, why don’t you marry her?” The man: “She’s still young. Let her grow up a little more.”
