[Urban slice of life + female first-person narration + tragic romance]
I asked, “With your background, why did you agree to meet me on a blind date?”
He said, “I just wanted to find someone at random to get my parents off my back, so I asked a few friends. Some of them gave me profiles. I picked a few at random, and I didn’t expect you to be one of them.”
I said, “How can you be so silly? Why be so honest?”
He asked, “Isn’t it good to be honest?”
The sun hung overhead. I spotted a flower bed nearby, hopped onto it, and said, “Good my foot! What do you mean, I was one of the profiles? Obviously, out of ten thousand profiles of peerless beauties, you spotted how special I was at a glance, declared you’d marry no one but me, and threw the other 9,999 profiles in the trash…”
I saw him struggling not to laugh. He said, “Get down first. You’re pregnant!”
I climbed down from the flower bed, glared at him, and said, “I’m down. Now repeat what I said.”
He nodded, put on a solemn face, and said, “The trash can couldn’t hold that many profiles.”
