The Canary Won't Look Back, and Her Sugar Daddy Begs on His Knees

[Heroine Never Looks Back + Second Male Lead Wins Her Heart + He Regrets It Too Late + Both Pure in Love + Emotional Push and Pull]

Her father threatens to sell Qing Lan to the Lu family, a prominent clan with a century of history, to be Second Young Master Lu Jinnian’s live-in companion.

Lu Jinnian has broad shoulders, a slim waist, and long legs.

He banters and bickers with her, sometimes flirting, sometimes acting cold.

One day, Lu Jinnian admits that he has a beloved woman he can never have.

Later, Qing Lan discovers that his unrequited love is actually…

Her whole worldview crumbles. She is disgusted.

At last, she understands why Lu Jinnian kept her by his side even though he didn’t love her.

Meanwhile, Lu Jingyao always appears when Qing Lan is sad or in trouble.

Qing Lan has mixed feelings. She thinks he is both strong and pitiful.

She pities him, feels sorry for him, and is grateful to him all at once.

Her feelings toward Lu Jingyao begin to grow complicated, too.

Then Lu Jinnian turns to her and says:

“Qing Lan, I think I’m starting to fall for you.”

Qing Lan quickly waves her hands.

“No, no, don’t fall for me.”

“Why not?”

“Because I…” I think I’ve fallen for someone else.

…

To provoke the woman he loves, Lu Jinnian showers Qing Lan with tenderness.

Then the woman he loves comes back to him.

But even while he’s with her, he can’t stop thinking about Qing Lan and looking for her. Without Qing Lan, his insomnia becomes unbearable…

Drunk and red-eyed, he finally loses control of his feelings:

“Qing Lan… I think I’ve fallen for you.”

Disgust flickers in Qing Lan’s eyes, and her voice is cool and distant:

“But I don’t love you.”

Note: The heroine has always been clearheaded and has never had romantic feelings for the male lead.

[Heads-up: This is a slow-burn story that begins with the leads’ first meeting.]
