Li Gai is an ordinary rural man.
He spent his life accomplishing nothing, working like an ox and a horse at the bottom of society until he reached his late forties.
After an accident sends him back to 1983, all he wants is to start a small business and live an ordinary life with his parents and beloved, the kind of life most people would envy.
But things don't go as planned. Not long after his small motorcycle factory opens, he is gradually drawn into a struggle beyond the reach of ordinary people.
In the end, threats force him to take his two brothers to an unfamiliar city.
Because this city has not returned to its homeland and is ruled by a foreign power, it is rife with violence and danger. Gambling, drugs, robbery, and murder happen there at every turn. Many people call this place Ma Gang.
Li Gai arrives in this strange place, where he knows no one, constantly worried about his safety. Yet here, he must rescue the woman he is engaged to marry.
And so he gradually builds a force capable of standing against them.
In the end, Li Gai becomes a pillar of the city and helps bring it back to its homeland.
